South Devon Delivers!

Trip Report
Driver: Josh
Passengers: Kate, Hannah & Brian

What an incredible trip!

We drove from North Greenwich to South Devon in just 4.5 hours, only stopping once along the way.

The original forecast predicted 2-3 feet on Saturday and 3-4 feet on Sunday, with rain. However, conditions actually improved with 3-4 feet on Saturday, holding steady for Sunday, accompanied by minimal rain and bursts of sunshine. The wind was offshore both days, with Sunday bringing stronger gusts that created some exciting spray in the back.

We stayed in a cozy Airbnb that Josh had booked. Upon arrival, we had to put our own sheets on the beds - a bit of a weird one. The cost was £78 per person, or £39 per night.

We woke up early for a low-tide surf session and on the beach 8 a.m., being the first car allowed into the parking lot (though not the first to park on the road). We surfed until about 1:30 p.m.

Afterward, we grabbed groceries for the group, breaking the cardinal rule of never shopping for food when you're really hungry—especially after a two-surf-session day. The total came to £18.50 per person, as we opted not to eat out the entire weekend a post surf pasta salad Josh generously made.

In a perfect moment, the group unanimously decided to go for a first-light/dawn session, which proved to be the right choice to avoid the crowds. It was a peak moment of the trip; on Sunday, we arrived at the beach in the dark—simply awesome!

Everyone caught waves! Hannah had the most success with her surf lesson and rental board. Josh enjoyed several rides on his mid-length board, while Kate scored a few lefts, pondering, “Maybe left is my ideal wave direction.”

We were all super stoked and pleasantly soaked, enjoying minimal rain and some sunshine. Most importantly, we experienced fantastic conditions for us aspiring professional surfers living in London!

A big thank you to Josh for driving, and to Hannah and Kate for their incredible energy!
